So you tell people you are quitting your job and moving to Southeast Asia, and you get either blank stares or wild enthusiasm.  For the blank stares crowd, you have to explain the back story… why?

My Dad worked for the U.S. government, so I spent 4 years in elementary school in Paris, France, and my first 2 years of high school in Bangkok, Thailand.  I guess living aboard is normal for me.

So I’ve spent the last 20-odd years trying to get back overseas.  But nothing really panned out.  I recently found myself divorced, no kids, not even a pet hamster, and thinking “if not now, when?”

I gave my notice at work and I’m preparing to go abroad.  I’m flying into Bangkok and that’s my starting point because there is a level of familiarity for me, but I’m really open to anything.

This will be about what happens next.
